Understand the basics of Nim
Nim gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Remove the last counter on the board to win. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Look at what changes after your first action.
Build familiarity through play
When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Make the next step deliberately.
The purpose of your moves
Remove the last counter on the board to win. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Start with a deliberate move.
Making your moves
- Player 1 chooses a pile.
- Remove at least one counter, and up to all counters, from that pile.
- The next player chooses a pile and an amount.
- Continue until no counters remain.
Using the playing area
Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.
Work through an example
With piles of 1 and 2, a move may empty one pile, but cannot remove one counter from both in the same turn. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Check the stated objective.
Pay attention to this rule
Only one pile may be changed per turn. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
