Canfield Solitaire: a guide for your next round

Read the aim of Canfield Solitaire, then make your first move. Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Keep the instructions close while learning this activity. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Thirteen reserve cards, four columns, draw-three recyclable stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Practice beyond the first move

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Use the example to check your reasoning.

The goal to keep in mind

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Notice how the game responds to your input.

Making your moves

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Choosing and moving on screen

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Use the control method described here for this activity. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A closer look at one example

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Choose a deliberate next step.

Notice this detail

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
