Learn your way around 15 Puzzle

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of 15 Puzzle. Arrange 1 to 15 in reading order with the empty square at the bottom right. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Read the objective before making your first input. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Give this approach a try

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.

What the game asks you to do

Arrange 1 to 15 in reading order with the empty square at the bottom right. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Start with a deliberate move.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Select a tile directly beside the empty square.
  2. The tile slides into the gap; diagonal moves are not allowed.
  3. Use Undo to step back one move.
  4. Finish the ordered board, or choose New puzzle.

Input guidance

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

An example to follow

When the gap is in the last square, only the tile above it and the tile to its left can move into it. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Take a moment to compare.

One detail worth checking

A distant tile cannot jump across other tiles. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
